* xrandr(1) is the culprit. It grabs the X server, as it should,
but only while reconfiguring CRTCs that should remain on.
However, it doesn\'t keep the server grabbed while disabling
CRTCs that should remain off. Thus, gnome-panel ends up
seeing an intermediate state where it thinks that it has an
usable area of 0x0 pixels, and so it moves itself to the
