Summary : A program which produces eye candy as a visual accompaniment\nfor music.
|
Description :
Synaesthesia (which includes a fully functional CD player) graphically represents music (from a CD or line input) in real time as a shimmering field of fog and glowing lines. Synaesthesia is better than the usual music eye candy because it combines an FFT and stereo positioning information to give a two dimensional display. The detailed display allows you to distinguish different instruments, singers or special effects on screen by their locations, shapes and colors. Some of the shapes observed are:
* Drums: clouds of color, fairly high * Clean guitar: several horizontal lines, low down * Rough guitar: a cloud, low down * Trumpet: Lots of horizontal lines everywhere * Flute: A single horizontal line, low down * Voice: A vertical line with some internal structure
Note that Synaesthesia runs within the X Window System.
