The kernel package contains the Linux kernel (vmlinuz), the core of your
Mandrake Linux operating system. The kernel handles the basic functions
of the operating system: memory allocation, process allocation, device
input and output, etc. This package includes modifications for multiuser
environments. You don\'t need this kernel for a normal single user system
or a notebook(as a lot of the notebook specific features are disabled) ,
but if you want to use your PC in parallel with other X users, this kernel
is for you. Before rebooting in this kernel you should first setup your
