You are using the b43 driver from linux-2.6.25 or newer
Follow these instructions if you are using the b43 driver from linux-2.6.25 or compat-wireless-2.6, or from any current GIT tree.
Use version 013 of b43-fwcutter.
Download, extract the b43-fwcutter tarball and build it:

tar xjf b43-fwcutter-013.tar.bz2
cd b43-fwcutter-013
make
cd ..Use version 4.178.10.4 of Broadcom\'s proprietary driver.
Download and extract the firmware from this driver tarball:

wget http://mirror2.openwrt.org/sources/broadcom-wl-4.178.10.4.tar.bz2
tar xjf broadcom-wl-4.178.10.4.tar.bz2
cd broadcom-wl-4.178.10.4/driver
sudo ../../b43-fwcutter-013/b43-fwcutter -w \"$FIRMWARE_INSTALL_DIR\" wl_apsta_mimo.o
Legacy use broadcom-wl-4.178.10.4.tar.bz plus http://downloads.openwrt.org/sources/wl_apsta-3.130.20.0.o then:
b43-fwcutter-013/b43-fwcutter -w /lib/firmware wl_apsta-3.130.20.0.o
Or:
bcm43xx-fwcutter -w /lib/firmware/ bcmwl5.sys
Edit /etc/modprobe.conf; add
alias wlan0 bcm43xx
Different distributions use different directories to load firmware from.
If the driver complains about missing firmware files look for the correct
directory. For some distributions you have to use /lib/hotplug/firmware
or /usr/lib/hotplug/firmware but other directories are also possible.
