Summary : MIPS64 Virtual Machine/Hardware Emulator
|
Description :
mips64emul is a MIPS machine emulator I\'m developing in my spare time. My initial goal was to write a simple simulator for running multiprocessor experiments with a microkernel I was working on, but the emulator can be used for many other things. While some MIPS simulators only simulate a CPU, mips64emul also simulates other hardware components, making it possible to use the emulator to run unmodified operating systems such as NetBSD or OpenBSD.
One machine type that is emulated well enough to run complete operating systems is Digital Equipment\'s R3000-based DECstation 5000/200. Using that emulation mode, NetBSD, OpenBSD and a few other operating systems run similar to how they run on actual hardware, with graphical framebuffer, ethernet, and SCSI disk and CDROM emulation.
