Summary : GNU GhostScript 5.50 with IBM Omni + all other printer drivers
|
Description :
This package is derived from the ghostscript-5.50-51mdk package but it contains IBM\'s Omni printer drivers from
http://oss.software.ibm.com/developer/opensource/linux/projects/omni/
Supported are more than 200 inkjet and dot matrix printers. Mainly users of Canon ink jets or dot matrix printers of any manufacturer are served with these drivers.
These drivers are still in alpha status and are very difficult to compile into GhostScript. This package should give you the possibility to easily test IBM\'s new printer driver concept which they release under the LGPL. Please read the file /usr/share/doc/ghostscript-5.50/Omni/readme.1st to know how to use the Omni drivers.
Report bugs to the maintainers mentioned on the homepage of Omni and discuss your experience on
http://www.linuxprinting.org/newsportal/
This release contains also all the other printer drivers as of ghostscript-5.50-51mdk so that you can use all your printers as before.
Note: There are 25 MB needed in /usr/lib for the Omni printer drivers!
To install this package, remove GhostScript with
rpm -e --nodeps ghostscript-utils ghostscript-module-SVGALIB rpm -e --nodeps ghostscript-module-X ghostscript
and install the new packages
rpm -Uvh omni*.rpm
To revert to the usual GhostScript do
rpm -e --nodeps omni omni-module-X omni-module-SVGALIB omni-utils rpm -Uvh ghostscript*.rpm
Ghostscript is a set of software that provides a PostScript(TM) interpreter, a set of C procedures (the Ghostscript library, which implements the graphics capabilities in the PostScript language) and an interpreter for Portable Document Format (PDF) files. Ghostscript translates PostScript code into many common, bitmapped formats, like those understood by your printer or screen. Ghostscript is normally used to display PostScript files and to print PostScript files to non-PostScript printers. Most applications use PostScript for printer output.
In addition, the package contains filters which transfer the raw bitmaps of GhostScript into the protocol of some additional printer models.
You should install ghostscript if you need to display PostScript files, or if you have a non-PostScript printer.
